Supporting one another at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary

For over 90 years, the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary has provided you and your family a space to enjoy nature at its finest throughout the year. In cooperation with Governor Whitmer’s executive order, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we’ve canceled or postponed in-person events indefinitely. However, the Sanctuary trails remain open daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. In order for us to continue keeping the trails open, it’s essential that our visitors follow social distancing and safety guidelines. Please note that all facilities, including restrooms, are closed, and plan your visit accordingly.

Social distancing and safety guidelines

  • Follow all posted signs at the Sanctuary.
  • Wash your hands before visiting and carry hand sanitizer.
  • Do not use the trails if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Maintain a six-foot distance from all other visitors on the trails and in the parking lot.
  • Bring your own water.
  • Keep in mind all of the Sanctuary buildings are closed, including public restrooms.
  • There are no dogs allowed at any time on Sanctuary grounds.
  • Pack out any trash.

We are doing everything we can to remain open because we know how important finding your own “sanctuary” during this time may be. We are committed to keeping our visitors safe while preventing the spread of COVID-19.

New entrances and exitsNew social distancing signage for visitors

We also have implemented new designated entrances and exits to try to minimize crowding. Visitors may enter through the wooden breezeway gate. The exit is marked with signs and is located to the right of the auditorium building. See the pictures for reference.

Thank you for your support!

We’re always appreciative of your support, but especially during these tough times. As Sanctuary programs, events and field trips are being canceled, we are likely to need your support more than ever in the weeks and months ahead.

Please consider making a gift to the Sanctuary during our closure. Your gift will help sustain the Sanctuary and care for the birds during these uncertain times.

Thank you for your support during this time. We will all get through this together!
