Every bird-watcher delights in seeing birds that normally live far away but periodically turn up as rarities. We will discuss the rare birds that visited Michigan in recent years and deepen our understanding of bird migration and navigation.
- Jan. 24, 2023: Migration We will discuss why birds migrate and how they know where and when to go. What are some of the factors that drive birds to migrate and discuss migration styles.
- Jan. 31, 2023: Avian vagrancy Bird spotted outside of their expected habitat is a phenomenon that has fascinated birders for centuries. We will discuss reasons for why birds get off course and what rare vagrant birds have been spotted in Michigan in 2022.
- Feb. 7, 2023: Michigan rare birds Learn about various resources you can use to find rare birds ethically. We will talk about how you can get a kick start on your life list.
Program Fee: Members $35, Non-members $45
Registration is due by Jan. 21, 2023.
This class has been approved for master naturalist credits. Students receive one credit for every hour spent in class. Digital Handouts and worksheets, selected identification keys, and technical references provided.
