Are you a proud owner of a lakefront property in Michigan? If so, you know that your shoreline requires special attention. It is the boundary that separates land and water, and it plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of your lake. But have you ever wondered how you can enhance your shoreline and protect your lake’s health?

A shoreline planting in bloom, shown with the lake in the background. In this workshop, participants will learn from MSU Extension limnologist Erick Elgin and Julia Kirkwood, an environmental quality analyst about shoreline planting options, and will be able to view demonstration plantings. Then, after lunch at McCrary Dining Hall, on the grounds of KBS, Erick and Julia will guide participants in creating personalized shoreline landscaping designs based on their property’s unique needs and personal interests.

Attendees will meet at KBS’s Carriage House, which is in view of Gull Lake and near KBS’s shoreline demonstration area.

The cost of attendance is $20 for members of the Gull Lake Quality Organization, $30 for members of the Sanctuary, or $40 for non-members, and includes lunch.

Register by July 8 at https://bit.ly/kbs-shoreline-workshop-2024.

The workshop is a partnership between the Gull Lake Quality Organization; Michigan State University Extension; the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy; and KBS.
