Welcome Rylee Lorenz to the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary!

We’re excited to introduce a new face to the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary this summer—please join us in welcoming Rylee Lorenz to the team!

Rylee Lorenz

Rylee comes to us from West Michigan, bringing a strong academic background with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Grand Valley State University. But beyond her credentials, Rylee brings a genuine passion for wildlife and a deep commitment to environmental education.

Hands-on Experience that makes a difference With years of hands-on experience—from raptor rehabilitation and farm animal care to working with exotic pets in clinical settings—Rylee has spent her life connecting with animals and inspiring others to do the same. This summer, she’ll be leading our educational programs, guiding nature walks, and helping young minds explore the wonder of birds, native plants, and Michigan’s unique ecosystems.

Inspiring the Next Generation Rylee is particularly passionate about making environmental education inclusive and impactful. She’s excited to weave place-based learning into her teaching—an approach that not only sparks curiosity but also nurtures a lasting connection to the natural world. She believes that by meeting students where they are and honoring diverse learning styles, we can empower the next generation to become thoughtful, compassionate stewards of our planet.

When she’s not at the Sanctuary, you might find Rylee out kayaking, skiing, or foraging for morel mushrooms. At home, she enjoys the company of her two adventurous ferrets, Penelope and Pansy, spinning vinyl records, and diving into new sewing projects.

We’re thrilled to have Rylee on board, and we can’t wait for you to meet her!

👉 Stop by this summer to say hello, join a guided walk, or sign up for one of our hands-on programs. Let’s explore the Sanctuary together! Book a field experience with the Sanctuary at:  https://bookeo.com/birdsanctuary_groups
