What to expect:
Join graduate student Hanna at MSU’s Kellogg Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, September 19th for a fun, hands-on program all about snakes.
This program supports youth science learning by connecting participants with working scientists and introducing key ideas in ecology, animal behavior, and environmental health in an accessible, age-appropriate way.
Designed for elementary-aged students, this 1-hour session includes:
- meeting a live Michigan snake and observing its movements and features up close
- learning where snakes live, what they eat, and their importance to healthy ecosystems
- busting common myths and building confidence around these often-misunderstood animals
- participating with a hands-on activity to see how scientists study animals and how nature, animals, and people stay healthy together
After the program, families are invited to extend their experience with self-guided crafts, playtime in the Overlook building, and exploring Storybook Walk, featuring the book, I (Don’t) Like Snakes by Nicola Davies.
